Rev. Edmund Fianko is NCA Director-General

The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana has announced the appointment of Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko as its new Director-General, effective Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025. He takes over from Dr. Joe Anokye who recently resigned following the change of government.

Extensive Experience in Telecoms and Broadcasting
Rev. Ing. Fianko is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in the electronic communications regulatory environment in Ghana and Africa. An electronic communications engineer by training, he possesses deep expertise in radio frequency spectrum management, telecom and broadcasting regulation, policy formulation, and various other relevant fields.

Highlights of Rev. Ing. Fianko’s Accomplishments

1. Played a leading role in planning, managing, and licensing the radio frequency spectrum for telecommunications and broadcasting services in Ghana.
2. Chaired the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Task Group on developing spectrum recommendations for rural connectivity.
3. Served as Secretary to the Digital Broadcasting Migration Committee (DBMC) from 2010 to 2016, overseeing the successful transition from analogue to digital broadcasting in Ghana.
4. Actively involved in numerous international organizations including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Regional African Satellite Communication Organization (RASCOM).

Educational Background and Professional Associations
Rev. Ing. Fianko holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. He further pursued a Master’s degree in Communications Management and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Applied Business Leadership and Management. He is a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
