BTA2023 For years, Kyei, a farmer from Bakokurom, saw healthcare as an unaffordable luxury. With three children to care for, even enrolling in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) felt impossible.
But on February 19, 2024, at Healthfest, a medical outreach by the Telecel Ghana Foundation, Kyei’s situation changed. By the end of the event, his children were among 359 individuals registered for NHIS at no cost, ensuring easier access to healthcare.
Bridging the Healthcare Gap in Rural Ghana
Healthfest, a partnership between Telecel Ghana Foundation, Ghana Health Service, and the Divine Mother & Child Foundation (DMAC), is redefining healthcare in underserved communities. The event in Sefwi Bekwai highlighted that healthcare challenges go beyond affordability—they involve proximity, trust, and breaking cycles of neglect.

- Midwife Amanda Owusu Serwaa from Greenshield Hospital emphasized maternal care accessibility, stating, “When a woman walks miles to a clinic only to be turned away by costs, it’s a systemic failure. Healthfest bridges that gap.”
