Collins Sefa GLICO Health Insurance LTD has strengthened its support for paediatric cancer care with a GH¢100,000 donation to Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana, an initiative that supports the Paediatric Oncology Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
The donation, made in Accra, forms part of the company’s ongoing commitment to childhood cancer treatment and advocacy, and follows a similar GH¢100,000 contribution made to the same cause in 2024.
The support aligns with GLICO Health Insurance LTD’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda and is aimed at easing the financial burden on families while improving access to life-saving treatment for children battling cancer.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of GLICO Health Insurance LTD, Maame Afriyie Boachie Nelson, said the company’s sustained support is driven by its belief in equity, compassion and inclusive healthcare delivery.
“Our continued support for Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana underscores our belief that every child deserves a fair chance at life, regardless of financial circumstances,” she said.
“This donation reflects our long-term commitment to partnering with key health institutions to strengthen cancer care and improve outcomes for children and their families.”
She emphasised that strong public-private partnerships remain critical to expanding access to essential healthcare services nationwide.
Group Chief Executive Officer of GLICO, Edward Forkuo Kyei, described insurance as a social product that goes beyond profit-making to deliver shared value to society.
“Insurance is essentially a social product. While it has a business side, its core purpose is to ensure that everyone benefits—either through premium contributions or through corporate social responsibility initiatives such as what we are witnessing today,” he noted.
He explained that the Group’s CSR efforts focus on three key pillars—health, education and sports—with healthcare remaining a priority in line with GLICO Health Insurance’s core mandate.
According to him, paediatric oncology care requires extensive financial and institutional support beyond what families or the state can shoulder alone.
“If you look at oncology care, especially paediatric oncology, it requires significant resources. Parents alone cannot afford it, and the state alone cannot carry the burden,” he said.
“That is why organisations like GLICO Health Insurance step in—to ensure the burden is shared collectively, which is one of the fundamental principles of insurance.”
Executive Director of Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana, Akua Sarpong, expressed gratitude for the continued partnership, noting that the donation would directly support uninterrupted treatment for children undergoing cancer care.
“We are deeply grateful to GLICO Health Insurance LTD for this continued support. Donations like this play a critical role in ensuring that children receive the care they need without interruption,” she said.
She added that the partnership brings renewed hope to families and strengthens national efforts to improve childhood cancer outcomes.
The donation caps a year of impactful community engagement by GLICO Health Insurance LTD. As the company looks ahead to 2026, it has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable healthcare interventions that improve lives and strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.
