BTA2023 The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Western Regional Office has secured a GH¢9.7 million budget for 2025 to enhance the region’s power distribution infrastructure. This funding will support 22 high-profile transmission projects aimed at improving system interconnectivity and ensuring seamless power supply during outages.
General Manager Ing. Emmanuel Justice Ofori emphasized that these initiatives are part of ECG’s broader strategy to bolster service reliability and efficiency in the Western Region. He noted that the company had previously undertaken 37 projects in the previous year, investing GH¢3.9 million to strengthen the system and reduce outages.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, ECG has exceeded its target by installing 48,938 smart prepaid meters in Sekondi-Takoradi and Agona Nkwanta, with 3,743 meters installed in Tarkwa. The company has also introduced premium services in Sekondi-Takoradi, offering expedited connections for new services and separate meters on a pilot basis.
To enhance revenue collection, ECG has implemented operations such as “Operation Zero” and “Operation Keep the Light On,” focusing on improving financial performance to meet obligations and revamp the network. Ing. Ofori highlighted challenges like cable theft and substation vandalism, urging the public to report such activities to prevent long-term outages.
These efforts reflect ECG’s commitment to providing reliable electricity services and fostering economic growth in the Western Region.
