GSE Crosses 14,000 Points as GCB Surges and MTN Ghana Hits Fresh High

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) reached a historic milestone on Wednesday, with the GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) crossing the 14,000-point mark for the first time, closing at 14,005.32 after gaining 270.78 points.

The 7,166th trading session extended the market’s winning streak to eight consecutive sessions, reinforcing investor confidence in Ghana’s equity market.

Market Capitalisation Hits GH¢256.75 Billion

Market capitalisation expanded to a record GH¢256.75 billion, up from GH¢251.02 billion the previous day.

  2. Total value traded: GH¢39.82 million
  3. GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI): 8,805.87 (+309.94 points)

Year-to-date, the GSE-CI has delivered a remarkable 59.69% return, while the Financial Stocks Index has surged 89.49%.

GCB Bank PLC Leads the Charge

GCB emerged as the session’s standout performer, jumping GH¢4.52 to close at GH¢49.80.

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC Extends Gains

Standard Chartered added GH¢4.72, closing at GH¢51.96, continuing its strong run.

Meanwhile, Ecobank Ghana PLC held steady at GH¢57.00 despite active trading.

Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) Maintains Momentum

Scancom PLC, operators of MTN Ghana, extended its record-breaking streak, rising GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢5.80.

  1. Shares traded: 1,968,543 (most actively traded)
  2. Market value contribution: GH¢11.42 million

The closing bid of GH¢5.80 and offer of GH¢6.30 suggest sustained investor optimism ahead of its upcoming dividend payment.

Oil, Insurance and Mining Join the Rally

Sole Decliner

Societe Generale Ghana PLC bucked the trend, shedding GH¢0.11 to close at GH¢11.40, despite healthy trading volume.

With the benchmark index now above 14,000 and eight straight sessions of gains, analysts are watching the 14,500-point level as the next psychological resistance zone.
