FirstBank Ghana Appoints Rosie Ebe-Arthur as Acting Board Chairperson

FirstBank Ghana Limited has appointed Rosie Ebe-Arthur as its Acting Board Chairperson following the resignation of Kofo Majekodunmi, who served as Board Chairman from 2021 to 2026.

The appointment marks a significant leadership transition for the bank as it continues to strengthen governance and drive strategic growth.

A Leader with Deep HR and Governance Expertise

Ms Ebe-Arthur brings extensive experience in human capital management, organisational leadership, and corporate governance across Africa and the United Kingdom.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), UK, she has built a distinguished career spanning financial services and advisory institutions.

She previously served as Associate Director of People Services, Africa Projects at Ernst & Young South Africa, where she led human capital strategies and standardised structures across Sub-Saharan Africa to enhance productivity.

She later joined Ecobank Transnational Incorporated as Group Human Resources Business Partner for the Domestic Bank, overseeing operations across 33 countries.

At Standard Chartered Bank, she rose to Head of Human Resources, West Africa, with oversight for Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, The Gambia, and Sierra Leone.

Strong Institutional Knowledge Within FirstBank

Within the FirstBank Group, Ms Ebe-Arthur served as Group Head of Human Capital Management and Development, playing a key role in shaping leadership development and talent transformation strategies.

As a Non-Executive Director of FirstBank Ghana, she contributed significantly to the bank’s governance oversight and strategic direction — positioning her strongly for the Board Chair role.

Academic and Professional Background

Ms Ebe-Arthur holds:

  1. A Postgraduate degree in Personnel Management from the University of Westminster
  2. A Bachelor’s degree in Education with a Diploma in English
  3. Executive management credentials from INSEAD and Saïd Business School

Beyond her professional achievements, she is known for mentoring women and youth and has a strong interest in the Future of Work.

Building on a Transformational Tenure

Her appointment follows the resignation of Kofo Majekodunmi, under whose chairmanship the bank experienced notable growth, governance strengthening, and digital innovation.
