Digital connectivity key to Africa’s vision of single market

At the Africa Prosperity Dialogue (APD) 2025, MTN Ghana’s CEO, Stephen Blewett, emphasized the crucial role of digital connectivity in achieving Africa’s vision of a single market. He stressed that economic integration would be unattainable without substantial investments in digital infrastructure and connectivity.

MTN’s Commitment to Digital Transformation

As Africa’s leading telecommunications provider, MTN is dedicated to advancing digital access, integration, and economic inclusion. Mr. Blewett reaffirmed MTN’s role in driving connectivity, stating that discussions on Africa’s single market would be ineffective without significant investment in digital infrastructure.

“Digital access, internet connectivity, digital literacy, and skills, as well as the promotion of e-commerce and mobile banking, are central to our vision for Africa,” he said.

MTN’s efforts align with its Ambition 2025 strategy, aimed at accelerating economic and social progress through advanced telecommunications solutions. By investing in digital infrastructure, the company seeks to enhance cross-border trade, financial inclusion, and technological access for businesses and individuals across the continent.

Bridging the Digital Divide

MTN Ghana has been a key enabler of economic growth and financial inclusion by expanding mobile connectivity and digital solutions. Through investments in high-speed internet and mobile money services, the company ensures that businesses and individuals, regardless of location, remain connected to opportunities.

Shaping Africa’s Narrative and Future

Addressing policymakers and industry leaders, Mr. Blewett highlighted the need to overcome Africa’s historical challenges and shift the narrative towards innovation, youth empowerment, and economic resilience.

“For years, Africa has been portrayed negatively, yet it is a vibrant continent with a youthful population that can drive productivity with the right skill set,” he remarked.

He called on leaders across sectors to embrace Pan-African cooperation, urging collective efforts to shape Africa’s narrative and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

“When I think of these things, I am always reminded that our time is now. It’s a time of action. Together, in the spirit of Pan-African cooperation, we can control our narrative and seize opportunities for our continent.”

The Role of APD in Africa’s Economic Growth

The APD is an annual platform that brings together Africa’s public and private sector leadership to forge partnerships and accelerate the continent’s economic integration under the AfCFTA agreement. The event fosters collaboration among Africa’s political and business leaders to deepen intra-African trade and investment for a prosperous future.

MTN Ghana remains committed to supporting Africa’s economic transformation through digital connectivity, ensuring that businesses and individuals can fully participate in the continent’s single market.
