BTA2023 The Amasaman Circuit Court has granted bail to a driver accused of defrauding a trader in a land transaction. The suspect, Frederick Nii Boye Mettle, was released on a GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties.
Mettle, who allegedly took GH¢25,000 from Madam Sarah Opare under the guise of securing her a plot of land, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Presiding Judge Ms. Enid Marful-Sau directed that the sureties submit valid national identity cards to the Court’s Registry.
The court further instructed the police to provide Mettle with the necessary case materials ahead of the next hearing, scheduled for April 2, 2025.
How the Incident Unfolded
Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru, leading the prosecution alongside Police Sergeant Faustina Asamoah, narrated that the complainant, Sarah Opare, a trader, was introduced to Mettle in December 2021 by a church member when she was in search of land.
Mettle allegedly sold her a parcel of land at Kuntunse for GH¢25,000, of which she made an initial payment of GH¢11,500. However, when Sarah visited the site, she discovered ongoing construction and was not given any ownership documents. Upon reporting this to Mettle, he assured her of relocation but later went into hiding.
Following a formal complaint, the police launched an investigation leading to Mettle’s arrest. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to the offence in his caution statement.
