Engineers & Planners Company Limited (E&P), the Ghanaian mining services firm led by businessman Ibrahim Mahama, has secured a US$205 million financing package to strengthen its long-term mining operations.
The facility was arranged by Stanbic Bank Ghana in collaboration with Standard Bank, with additional support from Ecobank Ghana and Absa Bank Ghana.
Boosting Ghana’s Indigenous Mining Capacity
The financing package is expected to:
- Expand E&P’s operational capacity
- Fund critical equipment upgrades
- Improve hard-rock mining efficiency
- Strengthen long-term contracts with Gold Fields Ghana
Industry observers say the deal underscores growing institutional confidence in indigenous Ghanaian firms as the country intensifies its focus on mining as a key driver of economic growth.
Strategic Backing for Local Mining Giants
The transaction represents one of the significant structured financing arrangements in Ghana’s mining services sector this year, reinforcing E&P’s position as a major local contractor competing alongside multinational operators.
As Ghana pushes for greater local participation in its extractive industries, the deal signals:
- Stronger bank appetite for Ghanaian-owned industrial firms
- Expanded access to long-term capital for local contractors
- Increased alignment between banking institutions and mining sector growth
With Ghana’s mining sector remaining central to export earnings and foreign exchange inflows, such financing structures could play a pivotal role in scaling indigenous capacity.
