BTA2023 A video circulating widely online, labeled as Ghana’s biggest amusement park, has stirred debate about rural infrastructure and development priorities. The footage shows construction activity in Akomadan, located roughly 270 kilometers northwest of Accra, a journey that typically takes five to seven hours by car.
Critics question whether the remote location can attract sufficient visitors, citing poor road networks and arguing that government focus should prioritize essential services such as healthcare.
Supporters, however, argue that entertainment and tourism attractions should not be concentrated only in Accra. They point to successful rural projects such as the Ekumfi Eco Resort, which has drawn both domestic and international visitors, suggesting that well-planned rural attractions can thrive.
Adding to the confusion, analysts note that no official details have confirmed a mega amusement park in Akomadan, and the footage bears a striking resemblance to last year’s Bright International Amusement Park groundbreaking near Tema, raising the possibility of a mislabeling or misattribution.
The discussion has sparked a lively debate online about balancing rural development with city convenience, the role of tourism in regional economies, and how government and private investment can support nationwide infrastructure.
