The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Simon Madjie, has announced that the Centre is taking its Investment Opportunity Mapping Project to the Central and Western regions to attract new capital and strengthen district-level investment facilitation.
The regional investment roadshow, scheduled for January 19 to 23, 2026, will bring together investors, district assemblies, and private sector stakeholders to explore bankable projects across the two regions. GIPC says the initiative is designed to unlock local opportunities while providing districts with the capacity to engage investors using credible, data-driven insights.
“The roadshow was organised to showcase the untapped potential of the Central and Western regions and provide investors with projects they can act on confidently,” Mr. Madjie stated.
Investment Opportunities Across Sectors
The Investment Opportunity Mapping Project has already profiled 75 investment-ready opportunities across priority sectors, including mining, manufacturing, ICT, renewable energy, and agribusiness. Mapping projects at the district level ensures investors have the information needed to make informed decisions.
The Central and Western regions have been highlighted due to their rich agricultural output, natural resources, and coastal economies:
- Agriculture: Western Region leads in cocoa production and rubber cultivation, while the Central Region specializes in cassava and pineapple farming. Opportunities exist in large-scale farming, agro-processing, modern storage facilities, and supply chain solutions to reduce post-harvest losses.
- Fisheries and Aquaculture: Coastal and lagoon systems provide prospects for artisanal and industrial fishing.
- Tourism: Heritage and coastal attractions such as Cape Coast and Elmina Castles and beaches including Busua and Dixcove present openings for heritage hotels, eco-lodges, resorts, and conference facilities.
- Energy: Western Region’s oil infrastructure and Central Region’s rivers create opportunities for hybrid energy solutions, mini-hydro projects, solar, wind, and bioenergy, supporting Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy agenda.
Partnerships and Institutional Support
The roadshow is being organised in partnership with MTN Ghana, the Office of the Chief of Staff, and the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry. Additional support comes from the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana Freezones Authority, Ghana Enterprises Agency, the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, and the Central and Western Regional Coordinating Councils.
This initiative builds on similar GIPC engagements in the Volta and Oti regions earlier in 2025, which successfully strengthened partnerships with local authorities and private sector actors.
Historical Investment Performance
GIPC data shows that investment flows in the Central and Western regions have historically been uneven:
- Central Region: 154 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects valued at US$491.36 million between 1995 and September 2025.
- Western Region: 294 FDI projects totaling US$10.83 billion over the same period.
The roadshow aims to bridge this gap by presenting bankable, district-level opportunities to prospective investors.
“Energy and tourism provide key entry points for investors seeking returns while supporting local development,” Mr. Madjie added.
