Collins Sefa Melcom Ghana has donated medical refrigerators to 25 hospitals across the country, in a move aimed at addressing critical storage needs for life-saving blood and vaccines.
Valued at approximately US$125,000, this initiative marks the 12th year of Melcom’s long-standing healthcare support program, which began in 2013.

A Decade-Long Commitment to Health
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Accra, Ramesh Sadhwani, Managing Director of Melcom Group, highlighted the company’s sustained dedication to healthcare improvement.
“This year’s donation of another 25 refrigerators brings the total number we have donated to health institutions to 70,” he stated, referencing last year’s similar contribution.
Mr. Sadhwani noted that the initiative’s reach now extends beyond Accra and Kumasi to rural hospitals, ensuring healthcare equity across Ghana.
He linked Melcom’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts to national productivity and prosperity:
“We are convinced that a healthy population is an important prerequisite for higher productivity.”
Encouraging Blood Donation for National Health
Melcom’s CSR initiatives also include blood donation drives, which have yielded approximately 12,000 pints of blood over the past decade.
Against the backdrop of low blood donation rates in Ghana, far below World Health Organization recommendations, Mr. Sadhwani made a heartfelt appeal:
“I implore Ghanaians, particularly youth, to regularly donate blood to save lives—especially those of pregnant women, accident victims, and children in need.”
Financial Commitment to Public Health
Francis Sam, General Manager of Melcom Group, revealed that each medical refrigerator cost around US$5,000. He stressed the company’s focus on community health:
“Basically, to keep our communities healthy. To ensure we have a healthy Ghanaian community that can patronize our shops and grow with us in prosperity.”
He also reaffirmed Melcom’s confidence in the Ghanaian economy, pledging to remain a committed long-term partner despite economic challenges and market changes.
Hospitals Welcome the Support
Gloria Bentum, Public Relations Manager at Ga East Municipal Hospital, received the first refrigerator on behalf of her facility and expressed deep gratitude:
“We do have refrigerators, but it’s not enough. The more, the better. It is going to help us serve the public better and reach more people.”
Her words reflect the widespread relief among the 25 hospitals that benefited from the donation, many of which face ongoing shortages in cold storage for essential medical supplies.
This donation falls under Melcom Ghana’s CSR health pillar, which focuses on improving healthcare access, infrastructure, and resources across the country.
The initiative continues to demonstrate how private sector investment in public health can make a significant impact, especially in addressing critical medical supply chain needs.
