Mentrax Oro Launches Ghana Gold Pendant Package to Boost Jobs and Tourism

Mentrax Oro has unveiled its Ghana Gold Pendant Package, a value-addition initiative aimed at strengthening Ghana’s gold industry, creating jobs, and enhancing tourism revenue.

Focus on Local Refining and Job Creation

At the launch event, Sales Manager Peridot Watterson emphasized that the company is prioritizing refining and designing gold locally rather than exporting it in raw form. This approach, he explained, will retain more value in Ghana’s economy while creating employment opportunities for artisans and support staff.

“We are not only selling; we are adding value to Ghana’s gold, creating employment, increasing tourism and contributing to Ghana’s economy as a whole. Mentrax Oro’s goal is to position Ghana as a global hub for refined gold products and ensure every Ghanaian owns a piece of gold,” Mr. Watterson stated.

Aligning with National Strategy

The initiative supports Ghana’s broader strategy of expanding value addition within the extractive sector. Mentrax Oro has also signaled readiness to partner with both local and international stakeholders to scale up the project.

Public Relations Officer Andre Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah described the package as “a generational treasure that embodies Ghana’s story in gold.”

Industry Potential and Economic Impact

Industry figures highlight the benefits of refining gold locally. According to Reuters, Ghana produced 149,300 kilogrammes of unrefined gold in 2024. With refined gold attracting a premium of US$2,307 per kilogramme in 2022, processing all of Ghana’s 2024 output before export could have added US$345 million in earnings, raising total export revenue from US$11.64 billion to nearly US$11.98 billion.

Tourism Authority Endorsement

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Marilyn Maame Efua Houadjeto, praised the initiative, noting that it goes beyond gold ownership to contribute directly to job creation and tourism growth.

“What Mentrax Oro is doing goes beyond allowing everyone to own a piece of gold. It promotes value addition, helps reduce unemployment, and directly impacts tourism in the country,” she said.

She further encouraged other extractive sector companies to invest in value addition, assuring that the Tourism Authority remains committed to supporting such efforts.
