BTA2023 MTN MoMo, a leading mobile money service provider in Ghana, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary with a series of events across the country. The celebrations recognized the invaluable contributions of partners, agents, and merchants who have played a crucial role in the platform’s success.

Since its launch in 2009, MTN MoMo has revolutionized Ghana’s financial landscape. It has empowered millions of Ghanaians with secure, convenient, and affordable access to financial services, transforming the way people send and receive money, pay bills, and conduct business.

The grand finale, held at the National Awards Night in Accra, saw the recognition of key players in the MTN MoMo ecosystem.
- FinTech Champion of the Decade: Archie Hesse, CEO of GhIPSS, was honored for his transformative contributions to Ghana’s FinTech landscape.
- Key Partnerships: Hubtel was recognized as the Overall Best FinTech Company of the Year and Government Partner of the Year. Other award winners included Nsano Ltd (FinTech Partner of the Year – B2B), AppsNmobile (Most Innovative FinTech Partner), BluPenguin (Merchant FinTech Partner of the Year), Letshego (Bank Partner of the Year – Lending), and IT Consortium (Remittance Partner of the Year).
Empowering Communities Through Innovation
The anniversary celebrations, themed “Empowering Communities: Celebrating 15 Years of Progressive Financial and Digital Inclusion,” included a diverse range of activities, such as a customer promotion float, stakeholder forums, fraud awareness campaigns, and digital finance training for SMEs.
A Vision for the Future
Shaibu Haruna, CEO of MobileMoney LTD, expressed his gratitude to stakeholders and outlined MTN MoMo’s ambitious vision for the next decade. “Our ambition for the next decade is to provide ‘financial freedom’ for every Ghanaian,” he stated. “We will continue to explore opportunities in digital payments, cross-border transactions, insurance, investments, and e-commerce, all while fostering strong partnerships to achieve this goal.”
