BTA2023 In a groundbreaking move to enhance climate resilience and food security, MTN Nigeria has partnered with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and Tomorrow.io to launch a mobile weather advisory service tailored for farmers. The collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed on January 24, 2025, marks a significant step in leveraging digital solutions to empower Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
The initiative will introduce a Digital Climate Advisory Services (DCAS) system designed to provide farmers with location-specific weather updates via mobile SMS. By offering timely and accurate weather advisories, the service aims to help farmers make informed decisions, mitigate risks, and optimize productivity amid climate uncertainties.
Karl Olutokun Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating:
“I am optimistic about what this collaboration will do for the agricultural sector, emergency management, and the Nigerian economy as a whole. We are grateful to NIMET for allowing MTN to partner with them.”
