BTA2023 The Ghana Police Service, through the Bono East Regional Command, has returned GH¢85,000 discovered at a snap checkpoint along the Techiman–Kumasi highway to its rightful owner.
According to police, officers on duty found the bag in the early hours of February 14, 2026, at approximately 4:20 a.m. after noticing it lying by the roadside. They suspected it may have fallen from a moving vehicle.
The bag, which bore the name “Ofori” along with a contact number, was retrieved by officers led by Inspector George Appiah and handed over to the Regional Command for verification.
Owner Traced Through Contact Information
Upon inspection, officers discovered the bag contained a substantial sum of money. Using the contact number written on it, police were able to reach Stephen Ofori, a 53-year-old businessman from Kumasi.
Mr Ofori later reported to the checkpoint to claim ownership and explained that the money had been withdrawn from **GCB Bank in Wa and was being transported to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle when it went missing.
The amount was counted and verified in his presence before being released to him following satisfactory confirmation of ownership.

The Bono East Regional Police Command commended the professionalism and integrity of the officers involved, as well as members of the public who helped draw attention to the abandoned bag.
The incident highlights ongoing efforts by the Police Service to uphold public trust and reinforce accountability in law enforcement operations.
