BTA2023 A Justice of the Court of Appeal and Mawerehere of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Barima Yaw Oppong Kodie, has urged young people to use technology responsibly, warning against its growing misuse for fraudulent activities.
He expressed concern over what he described as a rising trend in the use of digital tools to deceive and defraud individuals, stressing that the youth must take a clear and firm stand against the negative exploitation of technology.
Barima Yaw Oppong Kodie made the remarks in an interview with the media on the sidelines of the J.B. Dankwah Inter-Senior High School Quiz and Inter-Tertiary Institution Debate, held in Kyebi. The event was organised by Okatakyie Boakye Dankwah Ababio, Twafohene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, in collaboration with the Danquah Institute, to mark the 61st anniversary of J.B. Dankwah.
Call for Ethical Use of Technology
According to the Appeal Court judge, technology should be harnessed to advance human development rather than undermine society through criminal activity.
“On countless occasions when I get to talk to the youth, I don’t forget to advise them that they should continue to explore the frontiers of technology and also ensure that they get all the benefits of using technology,” he said.
He emphasised that innovation and digital literacy must be guided by strong ethical values to ensure technology contributes positively to national development and human progress.
Promote Ghanaian Culture Through Education
Also speaking at the event, Dr Antoinette Tsiboe Darko, Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, called for greater appreciation and integration of Ghanaian cultural traditions across all levels of the education system.
She stressed that strengthening cultural education alongside academic and technological advancement is essential for producing well-rounded citizens who are grounded in national values.
