Apple has officially announced a strategic partnership with Google to enhance its AI capabilities, including improvements to Siri. The collaboration marks a major step for Apple as it leverages Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology to power its next-generation foundational models.
“After careful evaluation, we determined that Google’s technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models, and we’re excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users,” Apple and Google said in a joint statement.
While neither company has disclosed the financial terms, reports suggest Apple could be paying around $1 billion for access to Google’s AI infrastructure. The multi-year deal is non-exclusive, leaving Apple free to explore other AI partners in the future.
Apple has faced criticism for Siri lagging behind competitors in AI sophistication. The company quietly launched Apple Intelligence in 2024, bringing AI-powered features like smart photo searches and notification summaries to its devices. Privacy remains a cornerstone of Apple’s AI strategy, with most processing happening on-device or via controlled infrastructure, a practice the company intends to maintain in its Google collaboration.
The partnership comes amid heightened scrutiny of Google’s market practices. In December 2025, federal judge Amit Mehta issued remedies against Google’s prior search engine deals, including its agreements with Apple. Between 2021 and 2022, Google paid Apple roughly $38 billion to maintain its search engine as the default on Apple devices—a practice now restricted under antitrust rulings.
Apple has also delayed the rollout of a more personalized Siri voice assistant, expected to launch in spring 2026. With Google’s AI backing, Apple aims to deliver a more responsive, capable, and privacy-focused virtual assistant that finally bridges the gap with rivals like ChatGPT and Gemini.
This collaboration signals a significant shift for Apple, balancing its tradition of vertical integration with the practical advantages of leveraging Google’s AI infrastructure. It positions the tech giant to catch up in AI-driven user experiences while maintaining its privacy-first philosophy.
