Collins Sefa Assin Odumasi, Ghana — The Assin Odumasi Restoration, Child and Youth Development Center has launched a major initiative to empower local farmers through agriculture entrepreneurship, providing over 100 farmers with vegetable seedlings to enhance their yields and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed Fenyi, Project Director of the Center, highlighted that the gesture forms part of a broader vision to equip farmers in the Assin South District of the Central Region with the tools to plant, harvest, and build sustainable agribusiness ventures.
Valued at approximately GH₵50,000.00, the seedlings—ranging from tomatoes and green pepper to cabbage and cucumbers—are expected to help farmers generate income, support their families, and contribute to local food security.
“Empowering farmers is key to strengthening food security and encouraging entrepreneurship in rural communities,” Mr. Fenyi stated. “We believe that giving access to quality seeds and the right support will enable farmers to transition from subsistence farming to profitable agribusiness.”
An estimated 52% of Ghana’s population depends on agriculture for their livelihood, making initiatives like these critical for rural economic growth. By encouraging farmers to use the seedlings judiciously and maximize their yields, the Center hopes to create new opportunities for small-scale farmers to scale into thriving agricultural entrepreneurs.
Rev. Peter Hagan, a beneficiary, expressed his gratitude, noting that the seedlings would significantly improve his crop yield and boost his income. His story reflects the broader goal of the program: to transform agriculture into a dynamic pathway for youth and rural communities to achieve financial independence and entrepreneurial success.
As Ghana continues to invest in agribusiness development, grassroots initiatives like the Assin Odumasi project are proving essential in shaping a new generation of farmer-entrepreneurs poised to contribute to the nation’s economic resilience.
