Collins Sefa President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the Adwumawura Programme, a flagship national initiative designed to tackle youth unemployment and promote entrepreneurship across Ghana.
Speaking at the launch ceremony held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, President Mahama described the initiative as a bold and practical step toward creating sustainable livelihoods for the country’s young population.
“Adwumawura is fully funded, inclusive, and youth-led. It is not another announcement, but a real opportunity for Ghanaian youth to build and own their future,” he declared. The initiative has been allocated GH₵100 million in the 2025 national budget.
The programme, named after the Akan word for “Job Owner,” aims to support 10,000 youth-led businesses annually through a comprehensive support package that includes:

Access to start-up capital

Provision of machinery and equipment

Technological support and incubation
Targeting youth aged 18 to 35, the programme intends to foster innovation, job creation, and long-term economic empowerment.
Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, called on the youth to seize the opportunity:
“Take charge of your future and that of generations to come by engaging fully in this programme,” he urged.
As part of the government’s broader effort to address unemployment, the National Apprenticeship Programme is also scheduled for launch on April 30 in Tamale. That initiative will focus on providing technical and vocational training.
The Adwumawura Programme aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s vision to create a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem that is locally driven, economically inclusive, and future-focused.
