GOIL PLC is repositioning itself to lead Ghana’s fuel retail sector through strategic investments in digital systems and infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving operational efficiency, service quality, and long-term competitiveness.
At the heart of this transformation is the GOIL Fuel Management System, a modern inventory and operations tracking solution being implemented across all GOIL service stations.
The system is designed to:
-
Enable real-time inventory tracking
-
Reduce inefficiencies in fuel stock management
-
Enhance transparency across the supply chain
-
Improve overall customer experience
Group CEO and Managing Director, Mr. Edward Abambire Bawa, announced these developments during a recent strategic meeting with dealers from the South, South-East, and Tema Zones. This meeting concluded a nationwide stakeholder engagement tour that focused on aligning regional dealers with GOIL’s new business direction.
“We are no longer just a fuel supplier—we are evolving into a technology-enabled service provider,” Mr. Bawa stated.
“To remain competitive in a rapidly changing energy market, we must innovate at every level of our operations.”
Preparing for EV Integration and Infrastructure Expansion
In anticipation of shifts in global and local energy demand, GOIL is preparing to support the growth of the electric vehicle (EV) market in Ghana. The company is working with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to develop plans for installing EV charging stations at selected GOIL outlets.
This move aligns with GOIL’s goal of maintaining relevance in the changing automotive energy market and ensuring its infrastructure supports both current and future fuel technologies.
Network Upgrades Across 270+ Stations
GOIL will begin a renovation campaign affecting over 270 service stations nationwide. These upgrades will not only enhance the physical look of stations but also introduce smart technologies to streamline operations and improve the retail environment.
Key objectives of the renovation initiative include:
-
Enhancing brand visibility and consistency
-
Improving service delivery at the point of sale
-
Integrating future-ready capabilities to accommodate evolving customer needs
Policy Support and Fuel Import Efficiency
Mr. Bawa highlighted the importance of government collaboration in securing timely and fair allocations of laycans—the permits required for fuel importation. He stressed that consistent access to laycans is critical for maintaining fuel supply stability and managing pricing across the country.
“Support in import scheduling will allow us to operate more competitively and stabilize prices, benefiting both businesses and consumers,” he noted.
Five Pillars Guiding GOIL’s Business Strategy
GOIL’s ongoing transformation is anchored on five key pillars aimed at sustaining its market leadership and driving growth:
-
Premium customer experience delivery
-
Uninterrupted product availability
-
Stronger dealer engagement
-
Reinforced brand credibility
-
Innovation through smart technology
“Our brand was built on trust,” Mr. Bawa said. “Its future will be shaped by innovation and operational excellence.
GOIL’s business transformation reflects a clear focus on technology integration, infrastructure investment, and strategic planning. These efforts are intended to strengthen its position as a market leader in Ghana’s fuel and energy sector and ensure sustainable growth in an increasingly competitive environment.
