MTN Ghana Inclusive Growth with Training for Entrepreneurs with Disabilities

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering an inclusive digital and business ecosystem for persons with disabilities (PWDs), helping them to establish and grow sustainable enterprises that drive financial independence and contribute to Ghana’s economic growth.

At a two-day capacity-building training in Tamale, organised by InnoHub with support from Fidelity Bank, GIZ and the Department of Labour, Madam Adwoa Ackonor, Manager in charge of Enterprise Business at MTN Ghana, said the initiative aligns with MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy, which prioritises digital inclusion, community empowerment and SME growth.

“By providing entrepreneurial and digital skills training, we are helping PWDs unlock opportunities to grow their businesses, improve their livelihoods and participate fully in the economy,” she said.

Post-Programme Support for Sustainable Growth

Madam Ackonor revealed that MTN Ghana is exploring additional support for participants beyond the training. This includes mentorship, capacity building and partnerships with financial institutions and development agencies.
“The goal is not only to train but also ensure that PWDs have the resources, networks and support to sustain and scale their businesses,” she added.

The training drew more than 200 entrepreneurs with disabilities from across the Northern Region, reflecting MTN’s broader mission to ensure “everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life.”

Leveraging MTN Services for Business Success

MTN’s portfolio of services – including voice, data, mobile money (MoMo) and enterprise solutions – is designed to help SMEs, particularly PWD-led businesses, reach customers, manage payments and operate efficiently.
“By using MTN services, PWDs become part of a larger ecosystem where they can access opportunities, partnerships and continuous innovations tailored to support SMEs,” Madam Ackonor noted.

Empower All Initiative: Driving Inclusion

As part of its corporate social responsibility, MTN runs the ‘Empower All Initiative’, targeting women, youth and PWDs. This programme provides training, grants and market access to help beneficiaries launch or expand their businesses.

Corporate Communication and Marketing Lead at InnoHub, David Amoa, stressed the economic potential of the initiative:
“PWDs represent a large pool of entrepreneurial activity and economic value that has been left latent for some time. This programme focuses on unlocking that talent, particularly in the Northern Region.”

Driving Inclusive National Development

The initiative adds to broader efforts aimed at reducing inequities in access to opportunities and ensuring that PWDs are not left behind in national development. By equipping entrepreneurs with disabilities with digital tools, skills and financial linkages, MTN Ghana and its partners are paving the way for inclusive growth and innovation.
